Abstract

Carnation is one of the most common and popular flowering plants in the Republic of Armenia. However, in greenhouse conditions, carnations are damaged by many pests, the most harmful being the Tetranychus urticae (Koch).

During 2022-2023, the harmfulness of the Tetranychus urticae (Koch) on the 2 main varieties cultivated in the community was studied in the carnation greenhouses of the Arshaluys settlement of Armavir region of the Republic of Armenia. The degree of population of different carnation varieties with the Tetranychus urticae (Koch) was determined by the visual method and assessed on a 5-point scale.

The biological effectiveness of the tested preparations against the Tetranychus urticae (Koch) was measured 1, 3, 5, 8 and 12 days after each treatment.  Economic efficiency calculations were performed according to the appropriate methodology.

Studies have shown that the Tetranychus urticae (Koch) damages plants both in the larval and adult stages. Damages all the organs of carnation that are above the groung. Feeds on cell sap.

Plants damaged by Tetranychus urticae (Koch) grow slowly, the leaves, petals and sepals change color, become covered with a fine layer of web, and the cocoons fall off. Colonies of pests are often visible on the web. In case of severe infection, the plant completely dries out.

In 2023, production experiments were conducted against Tetranychus urticae (Koch) on the Chorny Karol variety in the Arshaluys community carnation greenhouse, where the following preparations were tested: Skelta, Oberon Rapid, Envidor 240, Oberon 240, Profenophos Aria, Laser, Omayt, Actellic, Vertimec, Propargid Aria. The experiment also had a control version. As a result of the conducted studies, the highest biological and economic efficiency in the chemical fight against  Tetranychus urticae (Koch) was demonstrated by the preparations Skelta, Oberon Rapid, Actellic, Vertimec, Propargid Aria., which in 2022 and 2023 ensured 88.3 – 93.6% and 84.8-90.6% biological efficiency, respectively, and in the production experiments carried out in 2023, an additional harvest of 8143 pieces was obtained, which provided a profit of 2126.5 USD.
